Industry leader Bob Vermillion, CPP, Fellow, designs and teaches the uniquely developed iNARTE® ESD Space & Defense SME Training Courses, created specifically for NASA, the Department of Defense (DoD), and DNS, in collaboration with Exemplar Global—an international certification body and member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
These specialized iNARTE® short courses are designed for stakeholders involved in packaging, handling, storage, assembly, inspection, testing, design, kitting, sourcing, and transportation of ESD-sensitive circuit card assemblies and EEE parts.
Addressing the extreme conditions of space and defense environments, the courses offer a clear understanding of how to protect EEE parts and manage material handling, long-term storage, transport, kitting, and repair returns—both inside and outside of the ESD Protected Area (EPA), also known as the “retail” environment.
Participants will learn how to:
Effectively kit EEE parts for short- and long-term storage
Inspect, detect, and mitigate non-compliant or suspect counterfeit materials
Recognize the risks of unsupported assumptions found in supplier technical data sheets without verified ESD compliance, which can jeopardize current and future mission objectives
About Bob Vermillion
Based at NASA Ames Research Center since 2008, Bob Vermillion is a recognized leader in electrostatics and ESD materials. In 2018, he was named the ESD Technical Authority for NASA. His contributions include developing a NASA Mars Mission-approved ESD material and designing an award-winning electronics packaging solution used on Navy submarines. His innovations set the standard for today’s advanced anti-counterfeit methods.
Bob’s distinguished career has earned numerous honors, including induction into the DoD Military Packaging Hall of Fame, the James A. Russell Lifetime Achievement Award for Packaging Protection of the WarFighter, and recognition as an IoPP College of Fellows. Bob holds certifications as an iNARTE® Certified Product Safety Engineer and iNARTE® Certified ESD Engineer.
About RMV Technology Group LLC
As a NASA Alliance Partner and Veteran-Owned Small Business, RMV Technology Group LLC operates the largest and most advanced ESD materials testing laboratory on a NASA site. A trusted resource for NASA, DoD, academia, and industry, RMV qualifies materials and products to simulate the demanding environments of land, air, sea, and space—supporting the safety and success of missions for the Astronaut and the Warfighter.
Why This Matters
Meeting NASA, Military, and ANSI standards for ESD protection under extreme temperatures and low humidity is critical. As technology evolves, polymers and engineered materials are replacing traditional protective methods. A lack of ESD understanding, combined with upfront cost-cutting decisions, can lead to non-compliant packaging, costly replacements, and product damage—ultimately threatening mission success.
