Bob Vermillion, CPP, Fellow, Certified ESD and Product Safety Engineer–iNARTE, will be presenting a session titled, “Electrostatic Discharge Risks in the Build and Deployment of CubeSats Housing ESD-Sensitive Devices: The Charge Board Effect—A Hidden Hazard on Static-Control Worksurfaces and Field-Induced Model Discharge During Deployment” at CubeSat Developers Workshop.

Vermillion is a subject matter expert in the mitigation of triboelectrification for space, lunar, and Mars surfaces. A former NASA Academy of Aerospace Quality Advisory Board SME for Auburn University, Vermillion is an invited speaker for NASA, DoD, and industry-related events. He is also CEO/Chief Technology Officer of RMV Technology Group LLC, a NASA industry partner and third party ESD materials testing, training, and consulting company.
The RMV Space & Defense iNARTE Training Directorate provides an on-site and virtual platform for engineers and technicians to earn iNARTE credentials from Exemplar Global, an independent certification body and member of the ASQ family of companies. NASA, DoD, DOE, and the contracting community can choose from several iNARTE certified short courses and can also earn the iNARTE Space & Defense ESD Engineer/Technician certification training from the RMV leadership team.
CubeSat, which will be held April 14–16 at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, is an annual conference that draws more than 500 industry professionals, small satellite developers, and students.
CubeSats are standardized, miniature satellites, often 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm and weighing approximately 1 kg. They are designed for low-cost space research and education. Cal Poly has been one of the world’s leading research institutions developing this emerging technology, which greatly increases the accessibility of space research and exploration.
Attendees at this year’s event will take part in three days of live presentations, Q&A panels, exhibit booths, and more. This conference is particularly useful to new members of the CubeSat community, with invaluable opportunities to meet and talk to industry veterans.
