What Is the IAF and Why Should I Care About Their Database of Accredited Certification?
Many companies require their suppliers to obtain and maintain certifications to one or more management system standards, such as ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental), ISO 50001 (energy), and ISO 27001 (information security); or at least to adopt some aspects of a management system standard.
The IAF assures end-users and industry of the competence and impartiality of the organizations involved in granting certification, helping to increase confidence that accredited certificates can be relied upon. Accredited certification provides confidence to buyers, but many don’t understand how this confidence is achieved or even how to verify the validity of certifications.
In this presentation, I will explain how the IAF works and what the IAF is doing to help make it easier to verify the validity of accredited certifications. For example, did you know that the IAF is investigating a database to serve as a global “single source of truth” for accredited certification validation? This would allow buyers to check in one place whether a potential supplier maintains an accredited certification—saving time, money, and increasing confidence. Sounds great, right?
