David Solomon has worked in the building and construction industry for more than 29 years in various capacities commencing as an apprentice, later undertaking numerous mid- to senior management roles, providing him with the expertise to convey practical experience to theory.
Solomon is an international ISQEM Safety Award winner in 2015 and 2016 for his commitment and involvement in developing a positive safety culture in the building and construction industry. He is recognized as Fellow of the International Safety Quality and Environment Management Association based in the United Kingdom, with more than 30,000 members.
Solomon is the head of the Standards Australia international delegation for the development of ISO 45001 (the first international standard for safety management systems). He has also held served as the deputy task group leader, secretary, and deputy convener.
Solomon has designed, developed, and published a suite of safety, quality, environmental, and integrated management systems to comply with ISO, Australian Standards, NSW Government Guideline requirements, and the WHS 2017 Act and Regulation.
He is the chair of the PwC External Advisory Committee that ensures impartiality is maintained for their certification accreditation body. Solomon is also the chair of both the Exemplar Global (formerly RABQSA) exam and scheme committees developing the lead auditor’s qualifications for occupational health and safety.
Solomon is an Exemplar Global OHS, Quality, and Environmental Certified Lead Auditor who is accredited with JAS-ANZ.
He is recognized as a credible information source and industry leader in the development of safety and integrated management systems. Solomon believes in the growing importance that standards play in providing safe and reliable industry outcomes. As his career progressed he realized that standards have a wider role in maintaining the safety and health of employees in the workplace. He participates in the standards development process and has represented Australia at the highest level at the last eight ISO 45001 international meetings.
In this session, David Solomon will provide a detailed insight into what the new ISO 45001 standard contains—unveiling each clause individually. The session will focus on elements such as continual improvement, leadership and commitment, actions to address risks and opportunities, safety in design, outsourcing, procurement, contractors, and evaluation of compliance with legal requirements.
